Union Square Hospitality Group is opening in Manhattan West, a development on the far west side

Manhattan’s far west side will indeed be getting a new restaurant from Danny Meyer. The restaurant titan’s Union Square Hospitality Group confirmed on Wednesday that they inked a deal to open a restaurant at Manhattan West, the 10th Avenue development between 31st and 33rd streets that’s right across the street from the massive Hudson Yards development.

A statement from both USHG and developer Brookfield Properties has slim details on what the restaurant will actually be, but the idea is that Meyer will be “the anchor restaurant” for the six-building development, which will have residences, retail, offices, a hotel, and public outdoor space. It’s expected to open in 2020.

Word came about back in June that Meyer was close to signing a deal on 20,000-square-feet worth of space in the property. And for some time now, his company has been exploring expanding further into the general neighborhood. USHG already has cocktail bar Porchlight nearby, and in 2015, he was reportedly in talks to helm a food hall at Related Companies’ Hudson Yards across the street. Though he is not doing that deal, a location of his burger chain Shake Shack is slated to be there.

Manhattan West, like Hudson Yards, is a new development aiming to be a destination in the growing far west side. Already, Amazon, JP Morgan Chase, and consultant company Accenture have signed deals for space.

Brookfield Place is also responsible for the lower Manhattan complex where a food hall with tenants like David Chang’s Fuku, Major Food Group’s Parm, and Black Seed Bagels live. With this new Meyer deal, expect the developer to try and attract even more high-profile restaurants to Manhattan West.
